The Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that Title I schools jointly develop with parents a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the State’s high standards (section 1116(d)).
ESSA also requires that Title I schools jointly develop, agree on, and distribute a written parent and family engagement policy (section 1116(a)(2)).
And finally, ESSA requires that Title I schools involve parents and families in the decisions regarding how the budget is allocated for parent involvement activities (section 1116(a)(3)(B)).
